The study of cooperation in teams or among teams is an important aplication of Game Theory. The main problem is that if there is imperfect observability of the actios of every member of the team, each of them may have an incentive to work less and free ride the other members. For a paper in this see: Holmstrom, B., 1982, Moral Hazard in Teams, Bell Journal of Economics, 3:324-340. For a general theory of how to study interaction with imperfect information (and analyze if cooperation can be supported) see: Mas-Colell, Whinston and Green, Chapter 23.
